Passenger has ‘had it’ With Air Namibia

Air Namibia, how do you still keep operating? Almost every Air Namibia flight scheduled these days is either delayed, or promptly cancelled.
Last week on Thursday afternoon a friend was scheduled to fly to Johannesburg, but when he got to the airport: … “Flight Cancelled” – as displayed on the schedule board. Passengers were rebooked on the 11:20 flight to Johannesburg on Friday, which I was also booked on. Lo and behold, we get to the airport and are greeted with a “Flight Cancelled” message. We were lucky and got place on another flight that left that morning and we could be in time for our function on Friday evening in Johannesburg. Others were not.
We were scheduled to fly back with a different airline on Monday morning. But when we checked in, it transpired that Air Namibia had booked me on THEIR flight, nor consulting with anyone involved, merely booking my ticket with them instead of the airline we paid with!
That sorted out, we waited in the boarding area with a whole room full of unhappy Air Namibia passengers – flights to Walvis Bay and Windhoek were delayed, and most people were businesspeople, travelling to Namibia to attend a specific function or meeting, and thus missing that appointment due to the delays and cancellations of flights by Air Namibia.
Needless to say, as soon we got to Windhoek, I cancelled flights that we had previously booked to Europe for a holiday later this year, and booked with another airline – that way at least we’ll be sure to reach our destination … and reach it on time without missing any of the connecting flights and spending half our holiday trying to re-organise flights and waiting in airport lobbies!
Air Namibia has become an embarrassment for Namibians, how can we prefer to fly with other airlines and still look on as our national airline, or “Scare Nam” as it is known, angers and frustrates guests and visitors to our country?
