Wonders of Lake Nakuru Kenya

If you are going to Kenya visiting Lake Nakuru is unavoidable. All you have to do is get your flights to Nairobi, the capital of Kenya and then head South of Nakuru, in the centre of the country, where Lake Nakuru is widespread with its entire pinkish glow.

The word “Nakuru” means “Dusty Place”. This lake is one of the Rift Valleys many soda lakes and is protected by a small Lake Nakuru National Park. Lake Nakuru is often termed as ‘Pink Lake’ by dint of the linings of candy pink flamingoes, in abundance around the lake. The presence of these Flamingoes in immense quantities is by dint of rich supply of blue-green algae, that is one of the most favorite bird foods on earth. Lake Nakuru is also a UNESCO-listed ‘Travel Wonder’ of the world.

The Nature Park in enveloping the Lake is also filled with great attractions. According to some, if you relax at a point higher than the lake, such as Baboon Cliffs, the greenish blue landscape, brush strokes of pink flamingoes queue after queue and the serenity surrounding the Lake make this place no less than a masterpiece of Nature.

Flamingoes are mostly spending their time feeding, playing with their fellows occasionally and at times making those zigzagging short flights above the lake, landing and flying again. There is no bird watching better than what you can experience here. Flamingoes are known for their amazing long legs and stylish postures, at Lake Nakuru, you will also be able to see them parading on their skinny angular legs, reflecting in the deep blue lake.

The best time visit Lake Nakuru is mid day, so you can be right there to marvel at the afternoon blending into evening light making an enigmatic effect against the background hills. Though, Lake Nakuru is known and famed for the unbelievable population of Flamingoes dominating and ruling the Lake. But also, other African animals like baboons and hyenas can be seen pace the shores occasionally, hoping to get a Pink meal in their jaws but the salty alkaline water is a natural barrier, protecting the Flamingo territory ‘Lake Nakuru’

You can also see other wild African birds, slipping their wings above and around the lake. Black and white rhinos have also been introduced to the region and serve as a second main attraction for tourists seeking a true African expedition.

Lake Nakuru is a reason for many painters, photographers and tourists to choose and get their flights to Kenya. The water level in Lake Nakuru dropped dramatically in the early 1990s however it’s been largely recovered in the following years.
