The Amazing Accra City, Ghana

Accra is the largest and the capital city of Ghana and also the great metropolis of Accra Metropolitan District and Greater Accra Region. Furthermore it also serves as the host of Greater Accra Metropolitan Area which is composed of Adenta Municipal, Ashaiman Municipal, Ledzokuku-Krowor Municipal, Ga South Municipal, Ga West Municipal, Ga East Municipal, Tema Metropolitan and Accra Metropolitan. Accra is known to be the focal point of country’s economy, communication and administration and also a great tourist destination which compels a number of tourists annually to take cheap flights to Accra and have the wonderful time.

The city serves as the great cultural and traditional hub of Ghana and is known to be the best-loves tourist resort. There are many eye-catchy temptations that the city offers to its visitors such as the monument of Ussher fort- that was constructed in 1649 by the Dutch called as Fort Crêvecoeur in the close vicinity of Fort James  and Fort Christiansborg. The fort was the main constituent of the Dutch Gold Coast that was traded in 1868 with the British.

Other such astonishing marvel is the Osu Castle-located on the shore line of Atlantic Ocean and is also called as Fort Christiansborg. It was constructed in 1660 by the Danish but later it remained in the hands of British, Akwamu , Portugal and Denmark. It serves as the heart of many governmental affairs with some 2,100 employees many international and prominent dignitaries such as German Chancellor Gerhard Schröder, Barack Obama , Bill Clinton and Richard Nixon have also visited the castle. Its extensive gardens display a wide range of plants both exotic and the local ones. The president’s parties and receptions are also arranged here and also offer shopping, dining, post office, cafe and clinic facilities to the workers.

The city is also very popular for the serene and picturesque Labadi beach also called as La Pleasure Beach, which is bordered and organized by a number of luxurious and gleaming hotels and mesmerizes its beloved tourists with dancing shows, drumming, playback, hip life and reggae performances. In its close vicinity lies the Kokrobite Beach which is some 25 kilometres away in the western of the city. The beachfront also owns the Academy of African Music and Arts. Another notable site is the Accra Sports Stadium occasionally used for football matches along with some other game activities and has the capacity of approximately 40,000 visitors. It is named after the first director of sports of Ghana ‘Ohene Djan’ and was modernised and renovated for the 2008 African Cup of Nations .

It also act as the host of Ghana’s national team matches , Great Olympics and Hearts of Oak .Besides you can also find some other fascinating buildings like  Ghana-India Kofi Annan Centre of Excellence in ICT, Parliament of Ghana, Independence Square, Accra Centre for National Culture, Kwame Nkrumah Mausoleum and the Bazaar of arts and crafts.The climate of Accra is tropical and the best time to visit it is between October and April when it is very less humid and pleasant. So pack up your belongings and cameras and get ready for a fabulous trip.
