Murchison Falls Uganda
While Kenya and Tanzania are the real super stars of the eastern Africa when it comes to game viewing and safari parks, Uganda is also fast catching up or at least trying to get its share of the tourist traffic. There is no national park in Uganda that can match the diversity and exoticness of the wildlife of Masai Mara and Serengeti, but Murchison Falls national park is a prime example of the fact that the scenic beauty of a park can compensate to a large extent the lack of extra ordinary wildlife.
That by no means mean that Murchison Falls national park can’t provide you with any game viewing opportunity. The park which is the largest one of its kind in Uganda has quite a few species of animals that can interest you, the most famous being the lions, giraffes, crocodiles, chimpanzees and hippos. If you are a bird viewing enthusiast then not many parks of the region can compete with Murchison Falls National Park in this aspect as it is home to more than 450 bird species.
If you are arriving from abroad then the best option for you will be to take a flight to Uganda the most frequently used Ugandan airport. Hiring a 4wd from Entebbe is easy and it will make you journey to the park and your safari in the park that much more easy. You can hire the services of a park ranger for providing you a guided tour but because of the abundance of wildlife there is fair bit of chance that you will be able to watch most of them even if you try exploring the park yourself.
Your best chance of spotting all the animals of the park is in the northern sector where are grasslands of full of herds of elephants, giraffes and warthogs and you can find a few prides of lions as well. Although many tourists have seen leopards in the park but there small population makes spotting them a rare occurrence.
The park is sliced in half by the river Nile which is a perfect place for watching hippos and crocodiles. The rangers can arrange a boat safari for you which will take you close to these animals but most of the rangers tend to keep the boats at a distance from the hippos because of the potential danger. The Murchison Falls is one of the highlight of the park is surely one of the most magnificent fall in the eastern Africa.
There is a boat ride available to take you to the base of the falls that can provide you with a chance to experience its stunning scenic beauty and again a chance to watch the hippos and crocodiles. You can always hike to the top of the falls and observe it from there. If you are planning to stay in the park for a couple of nights then there are many resorts there from which you can choose one according to your taste and budget.
The beautiful Murchison Falls in Northern part of Uganda is one of world’s most powerful waterfalls and a must see.
Looking forward to see everyone on a trip to the top of the falls, a sunset cruise or a game drive through the National Park.
