Land of Giants – Tuli Block, Botswana

The Tuli Block “the land of giants” famous for both its amazing wildlife and the unique, immense geographical features that fills the landscape, makes it an incredible place of Botswana to visit. Although, tourism in Botswana was once seen as one dimensional however, the recent increase in cheap flights to Botswana by low cost airlines, the new air routes and increased travel speaks of a possible tourism hike.

The term “Tuli” means dust, and the fine and constant dust that covers this area brings with it its own unique beauty. The Tuli Block and eastern Botswana have a real feel of undiscovered Africa about them.

The Tuli Block is a diverse wilderness of Savannah, riverine forests, marshland, open plains and sandstones outcrops. It contains curious geographical features such as Solomon’s wall (the remains of an ancient dyke), Tswapong and Lepokole Hills (were once home to to the San people and the rock paintings are prolific in the area), the red sand and yellow barked fewer trees that grow along the banks of the Limpopo river are unforgettable sights.

Tuli is made up of a collection of privately owned wildlife concessions in the north-east corner of Botswana with the major reserves being Tuli and Mashatu. It is renowned for its concentration of elephants, easy game viewing and magnificent bird life. Each day brings a new adventure as Tuli offers a truly authentic wildlife experience.

Still unknown to foreign travelers, the Tuli Block is home to huge elephant herds , the Eland- Africa’s largest and highest jumping antelope, zebra’s, wildebeest, leopords, cheetahs, jackals and hyena. Birdlife is plentiful with some 350 species having been recorded.The area is reported to be one of the best bird viewing spots in Southern Africa.

The safari options in Tuli Block bring out the explorer in you. You can opt for guided foot safaris and thrilling night drives, which may reveal such shy nocturnal animals as procupine, aardvark and kangaroo like springhare. Adventure activities such as mountain bike safari and horseback safaris are also available here. An all inclusive trip including flight tickets, hotels, accommodation, safaris and guided tour can be booked with some travel agents in UK, or cheap flights to Botswana providers.

Tuli Block has topography very unlike most other parts of Botswana, which along with its wildlife makes it a place worth visiting.
