Jet Airways starts flights to Johannesburg from Mumbai today

"We are delighted to introduce a daily, non-stop service from Mumbai to Johannesburg which is set to emerge as a gateway for Indian travellers into the phenomenal world of business opportunities and breath-taking tourism options that the African continent represents," Naresh Goyal, Jet Airways

Passengers travelling on the route will be offered the chance to connect to onward flights to Cape Town, Durban and Port Elizabeth, while cities in other African countries will also become accessible. Naresh Goyal, Jet Airways’ chairman, said it was with "great pride and excitement" that the airline is beginning services to Africa, which comes after the carrier extended its route network in the UK, Europe and the US.

Mr Goyal went on to say that there are strong historical, cultural and political ties between India and Africa and that he hopes these will be enhanced by the launch of the new Mumbai-Johannesburg route.
