Flights to Zanzibar – is it safe to fly?

If you are planning to book cheap flights to Zanzibar, and worried about the election time possible conflicts or unrest in the country, let me inform you that the new “Government of National Unity” will now affect all electoral processes.

In accordance with “Government of National Unity”, the electoral process will only be carried out to decide the proportions in which one political party will be granted presence in the parliament and government. This also means that all political parties will have presence in Parliament however their influences or number or seats will be determined by the number of votes given by their people.

In past, we have seen that the election time, has remained a major concern for tourist deciding to book flights to Zanzibar, as during the previous elections there have been incidents of unrest and conflicts between the opposite parties. Even, if a party wins, tourists were not advised to go out as ‘victory’ celebrations and mobs can also get out of control.

However with the “Government of National Unity” in the upcoming elections on the islands making up Zanzibar, elections are not expected to have any significant impact on the tourism industry. The referendum this year, was conducted peacefully, and is likely to promote more peace full elections in the coming years as well.

The present election campaign, especially in previous election hotspot, Pemba, has been going well, too, giving rise to hope that next weekend’s general election will be conducted in a calm environment without giving tourists any hair-raising experiences. All the governments mutually agree on making the country safer for western tourist. Mr. Amani Abeid Karume, the current President has paid his farewell to the institutions across Zanzibar while supporting his party’s chosen successor in his final campaign days.

The revenue earned from tourism can prove to be a potential contributor in the national economy.
