FCO advises against travelling to Cairo, Alexandria, Luxor and Suez

Hundreds of people have died in the recent Egypt anti-government protests. Where some countries have issued travel warnings, alerts and flight cancellations, Hong Kong has issued the highest level of warnings, ‘Black’ alert for Egypt. This indicates that the country advises against travelling to Egypt. The Hong Kong nationals in Egypt are being evacuated at earliest possibilities as curfew in major Egyptian cities including Cairo and Sharm el Sheikh is a hindrance.

Egypt-ProtestThe unrest that began on last Tues has been dubbed by Cairo as the “Nile Revolution” demands the ouster of Hosni Mubarak aged 82. The leader has been ruling Egypt for three decades.

Unlike Hong Kong, Russians in Egypt have shown reluctance in packing their bags and coming back home. As according to Russia’s federal Tourism Agency, more than 30,000 Russian tourists in Egypt are unwilling to return. The Government however has strictly advised foreigners to stay away from the areas of protests and mass gatherings.

The British nationals are instructed to abide by the warnings released by FCO. In its latest travel warning, FCO states has advised against all but essential travel to several Egyptian cities where anti-government protests continue.
