Deportation flight leaves Dublin

One of the largest ever deportation flights carrying failed asylum seekers has left Dublin with 89 men, women and children on board. The charter service, the 17th organised by the Government, immigration authorities and gardai, was also carrying 45 deportees from the UK to Lagos in Nigeria.

A Department of Justice spokesman said the flight was a clear indication of the Government’s commitment to act on false asylum claims.

"Where people are abusing the asylum system, where people have failed to convince our legal system they are entitled to stay we have made it clear we will act," the spokesman said.
