Power outage at the Murtala Muhammed Airport (MMA) on Tuesday affected communication at the control towers, leading to flight delays. Reports Says that the outage lasted for over an hour, causing flight delays before power eventually returned.
The outage, which came few minutes before 5 p.m. lasted till some minutes after 6 p.m. Many incoming flights were caught in the web of the blackout while it lasted with some diverted to areas outside Lagos. An air traffic controller told the source on condition of anonymity that the outage made them to resort to procedural system to direct aircraft.
Efforts to reach the managing director of Nigeria Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) were unsuccessful but a senior official in the agency told the source that the issue had been resolved. He blamed the situation on some problems that the Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) was having but said a generating set had been brought in to save the situation. The General Manager, Public Affairs of FAAN, Mr Akin Olukunle,could not be reached at the time of this report.
