UK airport passenger numbers down

World financial turbulence took its toll on passenger numbers at UK airports last month, figures show.

Airport operator BAA handled 13.3 million passengers at its seven UK airports in September 2008 – 5% fewer than in September 2007.

Passenger numbers at the seven airports – which include Heathrow and Gatwick – have totalled 113.4 million for the first nine months of this year, 1.4% down on the January-September 2007 figure.
