South African Passport requirements for FIFA Soccer World Cup 2010

June 9, 2010 according to the latest news release by South African authorities, only one blank page is required in the passports for entry stamps at the airport. Here let me inform you that previously, it used to be minimum two blank pages.Yet, during the FIFA Soccer World Cup 2010 incidents are reported where visitors have been refused entry and sent back to the UK as some officials are insisting on two blank pages. It has caused a wave of depression and disappointment among football fans that traveled the world to get there in time for the opening matches. With accommodation booked and transfers added the amount of individual loss is expected to be huge.

Therefore, be aware, if you are a traveler taking flights to South Africa for FIFA 2010 Soccer World cup and do not have blank pages in your passport, then you can be the one to be refused entry and returned back to the UK on the next flight.Although British, US, Canada and EU nationals do not require a visa for South Africa and can travel on a passport valid for at least 30 days after the intended date of departure still people are experiencing difficulties at the entry due to misinformation or lack of any information at all. Only a few people seem aware of the fact that if your passport is due to expire before the given deadline; you will be refused entry by airport immigration officials for flouting that regulation.

The Foreign & Commonwealth Office (FCO) advises that you should have two blank pages in your passport on arrival and check the validity of the passport before travel.Also visa is ONLY not required by British, US, Canada and EU nationals IF staying for up to 90 days for business and tourist purposes hence, one must contact the concerned embassy / consulate if traveling for any period exceeding 90 days.

Incase, you your travel period exceeds 90 days, you will require documentation confirming the purpose and duration of visit, two identity photographs, proof of finances for the trip and a return or onward ticket. Also, visa / permits can be extended incase if you change your mind and wish to stay longer in South Africa. However, for that purpose one should apply at least 30 days prior to expiry of original permit and book changeable tickets in the first place.
