The French ATC strike has caused cancellation of flights due on October 12, 2010. The French ATC strikes has so far caused confirmed cancellation of British Airways flights No. BA 304 flying form London Heathrow to Charles Douglas Airport Paris. The return flights from Paris (CDG airport) to Heathrow with British Airways flight No. 307 is also cancelled for the day. While the other BA flights on the day BA 322 and return flights from Paris number BA 327 are equally effected as well and will not fly.
The good news is, that other Air crafts have been upgraded to allow additional capacity on the day. Usually, under such circumstances, airlines allow passengers to choose and take a full refund or get them booked on alternate flights leaving same or closest day. Yet, there are no accommodation or disturbance penalties paid as outlaid in the terms with most carriers. The detailed conditions on British Airways for affected customers can be handled under the standard conditions of carriage for cancellations. The outline is If a customer’s flight is cancelled, he may Rebook. onto the next available BA or if JB routing BA, BA*AA(American Air) or BA*IB(Iberia Airline) flight, to the same destination. In this scenario, same cities can be accessed through different airports if available. The Rebooking has to be confirmed within a 3 day period before or a 14-day period after the scheduled departure time of the original flight. If the same booking class is not available then the lowest class in the same cabin may be booked. If required the ticket validity may be extended as well.
Another option is to Rebook onto a BA or if JB routing BA, BA*AA or BA*IB flight to the same destination or same cities through a different airport, more than 3-days before or 15-days after the scheduled departure time of the original flight. Rebooking can only take place or carried out in the same class and cabin. For rebooked flights, travel must take place within the ticket validity of the original ticket purchased. Please note if booked on BA*AA code share airline or BA*IB code share airline, you are changing to a different operating carrier. In this case, class mapping should also be checked.
Lastly, Refund of tickets is also one of the options. However, the Refund of ticket purchased has to be in the original form or payment as booked. There is rarely any case, when passengers refuse all of the above solution to their problem. But if that happens and the passenger declines the options to rebook to the same destination or refund, then they may be offered the option to reroute to an alternative gateway. Here one thing is most important, while flying with a five star alliance airlines or a stable and reliable carrier as British Airways, satisfactory services are delivered.
