Lufthans win Fifth Consecutive National Travel Industry Awards in Australia

Lufthansa German Airlines has won the 2010 National Travel Industry Awards’ Best Off-Line International Carrier Award for the fifth consecutive year. The awards were held at the Westin Hotel in Sydney.

“We are delighted to again receive this prestigious award and particularly pleased that three of the five finalist airlines are part of the Lufthansa Group. It is also rewarding to see the strength of the Star Alliance network, with Scandinavian Airlines shortlisted as one of the finalists. We dearly thank each and every agent for supporting us!” said Lufthansa’s General Manager, Kai Peters.

Adding more cache to their win, Lufthansa was inducted into the National Travel Industry Awards’ Hall of Fame for three consecutive wins in the best off-line airline category. Lufthansa’s high-performance and service delivery has equally converted to market growth across all business lines. In the first half of this year Frankfurt-based carrier flew 27.2 million passengers on flights to Australia, an increase of 1.8 per cent on the previous year.

Of all the regions that enjoyed substantial growth, the Middle East enjoyed the most traffic. The airlines within the Lufthansa Group, including Lufthansa Regional and Lufthansa Italia, Austrian Airlines, British Midland (bmi), SWISS and Germanwings as well as the equity stakes in Brussels Airlines, JetBlue and SunExpress, flew a total of more than 41 million passengers, a 25.8 per cent increase compared to the same period in 2009. And the number of flights operated by the Group airlines totalled 491,795, an increase of 24.8 per cent. Mr. Peters who accepted the award also outlined that Austrian Airlines will soon join the Lufthansa team in Australia.
