American Airlines and Brazil’s GOL Airlines sign Interline Ticket and Baggage Agreement

American Airlines has entered into an interline ticket and baggage agreement with GOL, one of the fastest growing airlines in Brazil. The interline agreement between American and GOL means customers traveling to Brazil on American and transferring to a GOL flight within Brazil or elsewhere in South America can purchase a single ticket for their journey, rather than multiple tickets, and check their luggage through to their final destination.

Similarly, customers transferring from GOL to an American Airlines flight leaving Brazil will enjoy the convenience of being able to check their luggage through to their American Airlines destination when they check in for their GOL flight.

American serves five destinations in Brazil from three U.S. gateways, while GOL operates nearly 800 daily flights to 49 destinations connecting the most important cities in Brazil and 10 major destinations in South America.

“American’s new interline ticketing and baggage agreement with GOL offers customers a smoother, more convenient travel experience when flying to and from points in Brazil not served by American,” said Peter J. Dolara, American’s Senior Vice President – Mexico, the Caribbean and Latin America. “Our service to major Brazilian cities, combined with GOL’s flights to dozens of destinations in that country, means that American will offer a level of accessibility to and from Brazil unequalled by any other airline.”

American has been expanding its service levels to Brazil in recent months, adding both flights and new destinations to its network. In November, American began service from its Miami hub to Belo Horizonte, Recife and Salvador. In December, American began seasonal nonstop service to Rio de Janeiro from New York City. Additionally in December, American increased flights between Miami and São Paulo for the peak winter travel season. In all, American offers 69 weekly flights to and from Brazil during the peak season.
