So far so good – 1.2 Million Chinese travelers visited Taiwan till September 2010

China is touching the new horizons of success and blooming economy while the rest of the world is still crawling out of Recession. The country is now seen as a major producer of ‘tourists’ for worldwide destinations, Here let’s remember that many countries largely depend on the tourism revenue for a stable economy such as Dubai, Thailand, Seychelles, Malaysia, South Africa and Australia. This year, the world’s eyes remained on Chinese tourists as a major support to their economy. Thailand experienced the diversion of Chinese tourist towards Phuket rather than Bangkok while Australia is also enjoying the rise in Chinese tourists whereas Taiwan ended up attracting about 1.2 million Chinese Tourists till September 2010 only.

Reports from TAIPEI, Taiwan claim that China has become the largest provider of tourists to Taiwan. So far the number of Chinese tourists booking flights to Taipei Taiwan has crossed many millions. In a recent survey released by the Tourism Bureau under the Ministry of Transportation and Communications, it revealed that more than four million people traveled to Taiwan in the first nine months of this year while nearly 1.2 million out of them were from China. This is a massive increase of 73.52 percent on the number from the same period last year (the number of Chinese tourists in the same period last year was around 687,000).

China has now become the largest provider of tourists to Taiwan replacing Japan that had long held the top place. Japan now secures the second place with a total number of 780,000 visitors to the island in the first nine months of this year.

This provides a great opportunity for more flights from Beijing to Taipei. At present, the launch of cross-strait direct flights together with Taiwan opening doors to mainland tourists on package tours in 2008 made Taiwan more accessible to visitors from China. The rise will also make the Chinese airlines stronger; however Taiwan should also facilitate cheap flights to Beijing to further speed up and increase travel between the two.

Trends are changing world wide as more affordable destinations are gaining more attention by travelers. This year, Malaysia topped in terms of total ‘percentage of increase in the tourist numbers’ in comparison to previous years.
