Qantas and British Airways have said final farewells to Terminal 4 at Heathrow Airport after more than 23 years in the building. The final Australia bound flights departed from the terminal last Wednesday before British Airways and Qantas successfully moved their joint operations into the newly refurbished Terminal 3. Terminal 3 now plays host to about 8% of British Airways’ flights at Heathrow and is the designated home for the oneworld alliance at the airport.
British Airways’ longhaul destinations in Terminal 3 are Sydney, Bangkok and Singapore. Shorthaul destinations are Madrid, Barcelona, Malaga, Gibraltar, Lisbon, Vienna and Helsinki. To mark the start of British Airways and Qantas longhaul flights in Terminal 3, a new larger Club and First Class lounge along with an Elemis Spa area have been opened for premium customers to enjoy before their flight.
Peter Lynam, Head of Network Operations at British Airways, said, "The final part of our Heathrow terminal moves programme went extremely well. "We have had an operation at Heathrow split between three different terminals for the past two decades and it is great to finally be able to say goodbye to Terminal 4 and consolidate our operations in Terminal 5 and with our oneworld alliance partners in Terminal 3.
"Terminal 3 is the closest facility to Terminal 5 and this will help make it a smoother experience for customers transferring between British Airways flights and oneworld alliance partners." More than 50 airlines have moved or are in the process of moving terminals at Heathrow before Terminal 2 is closed for redevelopment.
