Qantas denies that professional engineers’ strike action could delay flights

Qantas says no services will be disrupted by possible industrial action over the Easter period. The Association of Professional Engineers, Scientists and Managers (APESMA) represents Qantas engineers and is in a dispute with the airline over pay and working conditions, including fatigue management and training. Engineers are meeting today to discuss industrial action and union spokeswoman Alison Rose says passengers could experience delays if the bans go ahead.

But Qantas spokeswoman Olivia Wirth says those claims are false.

"Professional engineers do not work weekends, they do not work public holidays, so any threat or any claim by the union that Qantas flights will be delayed is simply hollow," she said. "These reports are inaccurate and they’re misleading."

The union represents about three quarters of the 190 professional aircraft engineers working for Qantas.
