More flights to Cairns with Continental Airlines

Continental Airlines has announced its decision to continue offering four weekly connecting flights linking Japan and Cairns, Australia, via Guam after October 1, 2009. On April 1 2009, Continental Airlines provisionally increased the weekly number of flights on Guam-Cairns routes from two to four. And the decision to continue offering the service was made after the April 1 increase of weekly flights produced strong business results, indicating that sufficient demand can be expected. Outbound flights will depart Guam International Airport at 6:40 p.m. every Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Sunday, arriving at Cairns International Airport at 11:10 p.m.

The result is more convenient access to Cairns through Guam for Continental passengers from all areas of Japan.

"It gives me great pleasure that we will be able to continue offering four weekly flights to Cairns thanks to the cooperation of Tourism Australia, Tourism Queensland, Tourism Tropical North Queensland and our partners in the Japanese travel industry," said Continental Micronesia President Charles Duncan. "We intend to continue to offer these four weekly flights, and to consider providing even more flights as we collaborate closely with all the travel agency partners involved and the respective tourism bureaus to provide even more convenient access to Cairns."

Chief Executive Officer of Tourism Tropical North Queensland, Rob Giason said “I would like to welcome Continental Airlines’ commitment to the Cairns market in these uncertain times. The Cairns & Great Barrier Reef region is a key holiday destination for Japanese travelers and this service is an important link for holiday travel.
