JETSTAR intends to reintroduce services between Cairns and Osaka in December, using wide-body Airbus A330 aircraft. The airline angered northern Queensland businesses when it cancelled the route last year because of high oil prices and unfavourable exchange rates.
But Jetstar yesterday said it planned to introduce four weekly non-stop services between Cairns and Osaka. When they commence, connections between Queensland and Japan would increase to 25 weekly return services.
The flights are subject to Jetstar concluding a satisfactory commercial agreement with Kansai International Airport. Jetstar now offers a daily Cairns-Tokyo service, but operates its other Japan-Queensland flights from the Gold Coast, supporting them with a thrice-weekly Cairns-Gold Coast A320 service.
