Citing global economic slowdown, Ethiopian airlines, one of Africa‘s leading airliner announced plans to reduce the number of flights to United States and China. Girma Wake, chief executive officer of Ethiopian airlines said the number of passengers has shown a fall since last fall from China and the United States.
Ethiopian airlines currently flies 6 times a week to Washington Dulles International airport and this will be reduced to 4 flights a week and its 14 flights a week to China will be cut to 12 flights a week. Ethiopian flies to Hong Kong, Beijing and Guangzhou in China.
The airline hopes to boost operating revenue by more than 6 percent to $1 billion this year. Ethiopia‘s government has an ambitions plan to attract one million tourists to Ethiopia by 2010, four time the current number.
