Emirates to hire more crew from India

NEW DELHI: Presenting a picture of contrast with their cash-strapped Indian carriers, the oil rich Dubai-based Emirates has decided to add flights to India as also hire more cabin crew from here.

And unlike Indian carriers who say another round of airfare hikes are round the carrier, German carrier Lufthansa has reduced fuel surcharge as crude oil prices are now nearly half of their all time highs of $147 three months back.

"The fuel surcharge on domestic German and intra-European routes will lower by 3 to 24 euros per flight segment. On long-haul routes the corresponding fuel surcharge will be decreased by 5 to 92 euros per flight segment. The reduction will apply to all Lufthansa tickets issued on or after Monday," an airline statement said.

Emirates VP (India and Nepal) Orhan Abbas said that the airline will add 31 more weekly flights to the existing 132 by next February, making it the single largest international carrier in India.

The airline will introduce seven additional flights from October 26 between Delhi and Dubai, taking the weekly frequency from 18 to 25 flights. Seven flights will be added to the current 28 weekly operations on Mumbai-Dubai route.
