As an outcome of the official launch of the new joint business agreement between British Airways, American Airlines and Iberia, BA has launched non-stop daily flights to San Diego from London Heathrow earlier this week.

British Airways Flights San Diego

This new flight service will be departing from London Heathrow International Airport directly to San Diego. The airline will be operating its first flights of the service from the beginning of June 2011 using a Boeing 777 aircraft. Boeing 777 is fitted with all three classes of BA i.e. World Traveler (economy), World Traveler Plus (Premium) and Club Class (Business). At this occasion, British Airways regional director, Western USA and Western Canada, Mr. Kevin Burns, said:

Inaugurating non-stop flights between San Diego and London is one of the first tangible benefits of the joint business operation with American Airlines, British Airways and Iberia Airline and we are pleased to be returning to this beautiful city.

While spokesperson for the partner airline, Cathy Bradley Berg, American Airlines regional Vice president of passenger sales, Western Division added:

We’ve been waiting for 14 years to be able to bring these benefits to our customers, and it’s great news that we can now put our plans into action starting in San Diego. Our partnership will further boost one-world in what has been a momentous year for the alliance, and enable us to invest in new products and services while offering more choices for our customers.

The airline will be operating daily flights to San Diego, seven days a week. The London arrivals and departures will be at Terminal 5 which was designed to handle up to 30 million travelers annually where customers have access to all airport amenities including online check-in, fast bag drop facilities, a multitude of shops, restaurants and variety of lounges for British Airways premium passengers.

These transatlantic flights are likely to boost tourism for both sectors. Mayor of San Diego City, Jerry Sanders said:

The importance of this service cannot be overstated. It gives San Diego business and tourist travelers a direct connection to one of the world’s most majestic and important cities. And, of course, Britons now have a direct connection to the sunny skies, sandy beaches and countless cultural attractions of our magnificent city.
