Following a report on 17 Feb. announcing an increase in Bmi baby flights from regional airports to Mediterranean resort destinations there is now speculation and press reports suggest that BMI/British Midland is about to abandon some flights from London Heathrow airport.
Previously reported cancellation of BMI’s LHR to Jersey flights it would appear that BMI are also to chop all flights from London to Leeds Bradford and Teeside airports. This will leave both airports with out air services to or from any London airport.
This will also affect Lufthansa, United Airlines, Air New Zealand and All Nippon who all code share on the British Midland operated flights on both routes. Also seeing large cutbacks in capacity are Amsterdam, Dublin, Brussels and Aberdeen. Dublin flights are to be reduced to six per day and Amsterdam down to four.
Both Brussels and Aberdeen will loose the Airbus currently operating the routes and will be substituted with smaller regional aircraft. All of this must be a real worry for Lufthansa who will be taking over BMI in a matter of weeks, a BMI that is much smaller that the one they thought they were getting, possibly??
Watch out for updates as this one unfolds….
