Air Pacific will reduce its flights to Australia

Air Pacific will reduce its flights to Australia because of low demand, says managing director John Campbell.Mr Campbell said the overall demand to Fiji was relatively low.

"So, not only Brisbane and Gold Coast flights are challenged but all our services to Australia, New Zealand and the US are experiencing a drop in demand.
"We planned to reduce our Brisbane flights from eight to seven a week from February as part of our normal schedule and in line with anticipated demand. Our twice-weekly Gold Coast services have been triangulated with Brisbane during February so that we serve both destinations on the same flight.
"Triangulation results in a flight operating from Nadi to Brisbane then Gold Coast and back to Nadi or vice versa rather than having two flights with one operating Nadi/Gold Coast/Nadi and the other Nadi/Brisbane/Nadi,"  Mr Campbell said.

He said triangulation allowed them to serve both destinations, maintain schedule integrity but eliminate the extra costs of a second flight on that day. He said the Gold Coast service commenced at the start of December and was building its customer base steadily but slowly. As a new service it would naturally be impacted more than established services, Mr Campbell said.

"We will continue to monitor Gold Coast loadings and offer triangulated services where appropriate but stand-alone service when market demand justifies a dedicated aircraft."
