Air Namibia says the airline has made significant inroads after five months of operations on the flights to Accra / Johannesburg / Windhoek route, an indication of brand acceptance and the sight of better prospects.
“We normally expect to reach maturity on new routes between 18 and 36 months but what we have seen after our five months in Ghana gives every indication that we will reach maturity within the next 12 months”, said Mr Xavier Masule, Business Development Executive of Air Namibia .
The entry of Air Namibia has broken the long monopoly of South African Airways and has also forced South African Airways to begin direct flights to Johannesburg instead of routing through Lagos. Air Namibia, when it entered the competition, began direct flights to Johannesburg, thereby attracting more passengers who wished to do direct flights instead of connecting through another country.
In an interview with the Daily Graphic shortly after a five-day field trip organised for some selected media and travel and tour agents from Ghana, Mr Masule said the airline was excited about its achievement in Ghana and would shortly introduce the A 340/300 Airbus to meet customers demand.
The trip exposed the media and the travel and tour agents to Etosha National Park, the most animal populated park in Namibia, the Sossu Vlei Resort with the tallest dunes in the world and the Walvis Bay. Mr Masule said Air Namibia was well connected with other airlines which connect to other flights to other parts of the world. He said Ghana also had a stable economic and political environment which had made it the toast of many African countries, adding that Ghana’s history was also rich enough to align itself with the brand Air Namibia presented.
