Air Canada will be adding Flights to Tokyo

Beginning Jan. 29, Air Canada will add daily round-trip flights to Tokyo Haneda from Vancouver , a route the airline says will complement its existing service between Vancouver and Tokyo Narita. Air Canada will operate the Haneda flights on 211-seat Boeing 767-300ER jets.

"With Canada’s only service to Haneda Airport, Air Canada is offering travelers to Japan the best of both worlds and twice as many flights to get there from Vancouver. Customers will be able to choose between flying non-stop to Haneda, which is only 30 minutes from downtown Tokyo, or they can continue to fly non-stop to Narita International Airport for onward domestic or international connections on our Star Alliance partners," Ben Smith, Air Canada’s Chief Commercial Officer, says in a press release.

The Japan National Tourism Organization (JNTO) offers background on Haneda, saying in a release it "had been the largest international airport in the country until the current largest international gateway Narita Airport was built in 1978. After having become a domestic-oriented service airport, Haneda Airport regains some slots for international flights, when the brand-new fourth runway is completed and officially open[s] on Oct. 21, 2010."
